Online entertainment in India planned by Sony

Sony Online Entertainment LLC sees the great potential in playing games online in India. Sony wants to enter the market of online games with local partner. "We need to have Indian content for our games and we are looking for local partners," said company's business development and international operations vice president David Christensen. The games are planned to be in a local content. The local partner should be able to render creativity for the games. As David Christensen said: "We will contribute our technology to the joint venture." In colaboration with Virgin comics is Sony recently working on multiplayer online game based on the comic book "Ramayan 3329", written by Deepak Chopra and Shekhar Kapur. This story is about fighting the daemons. It is the most famous Indian epic, which could hepl people to love online gaming. David Christensen attitude towards spreading the game behind boarders of India is more than positive: "If the game is successful in India, we will take it to Europe and North America." "It is a fresh international story and if it is created into a movie it could be a big global property." The Virgin comics thinks about making a movie from Ramayan Indiam epic based on the last years release in America. "It is one of the most exciting things to happen in India with Sony being one of the biggest players in the online game world," said Suresh Seetharamanin, the Virgin's president, while talking about the colaboration with Sony. Both sides hope that as broadband starts to get more in use in India, the number of online gamers highly increases from todays 2.8 million gamers.
